I've never been much of a night owl. There are very few nights when I've stayed up late enough to see the first sun rays peeking through the living room. Most of those nights and mid-nights were anything but sober, leaving me with only a handful of memories worth cherishing. Amidst the haze of those nights, there's one face that stands out the most, Chetan's. His presence and the moments we shared are among the few that I hold dear in those late hours.
For a year, I found myself in the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, a city that never seemed to slow down. It was an exhilarating experience, but every weekend, I felt the pull of Pune calling me back. Those Saturday getaways became my lifeline, a chance to exhale and reconnect. It was on one of those Saturdays that I met Chetan.Katraj! It's where I spent most of my college life, along with a few spillover years. Chetan and I shared many evenings there, cheering on as we welcomed a new era of films.
Chetan is a professional film writer and successful film director. His work in the Marathi Film Industry is worth noticing.
I have never met a person as knowledgeable as Chetan when it comes to Hindi films. A huge fan of 80s.Surprisingly, our tastes in music and films hardly match. However, we can talk endlessly into the night about various topics. What resonates between us is our shared love for horror and suspense thrillers. One must delve into Chetan's own stories, expressed through his short films and feature films, to truly understand his passion for this genre. He began his journey in fine arts, specializing in photography, and also ventured into theater during this time. Like me, Chetan discovered that combining theater and photography revealed his strength in direction and writing, creating visually compelling narratives. 'Indian Films are very dilauge based ' He says. 'I want to make them Visualy strong too'. After Satyajit Ray and Guru Dutt, with Ram Gopal Varma as his ideal, Chetan is exploring his art further. To give strength to his art he finds inspiration from music of 80s and 90s . Bappi da & A.R Rehman feels like God giving strength to him. Chetan knows word to word of atleast 10k plus songs including pauses between them ! Its seems alot but I have witnessed most of them .
Midnight conversations didn't happen on an empty stomach :) . I believe this is the second biggest reason we vibed so well. Food was the string that tied our conversations together. Chetan is a big foodie, especially in love with Maharashtrian mutton curries. On the other hand, he has a deep fondness for Punjabi and Mughlai chicken. With his wife Aarti being the best provider for our tongue cravings, I look forward to continuing this food-film journey with Chetan for as long as time allows.
